LAS VEGAS, July 7, 2017 — The Masters of Harmony, a chorus from Santa Fe Springs, Calif. captured the Gold Medal Friday evening at the Barbershop Harmony Society's 79th annual convention in Las Vegas. Thirty choruses from the United States, Canada, Australia, Sweden, and United Kingdom competed in the two-session, all-day event.

Three other choruses representing the Far Western District also competed in the contest: finishing 9th, the Fog City Singers from the Barbary Coast, CA Chapter; finishing 22nd, Pacific Coast Harmony from the La Jolla, CA Chapter; and finishing 26th, Voices of California from the California Delta, CA Chapter.

The 112-man Masters of Harmony posted A-level scores in all categories from the quintuple panel of judges. This year's championship marks their ninth gold medal in international competition. Per Society contest rules, a chorus may only win the gold medal once every three years, so they will sit out of competition for the next two years.

The top five choruses were, as follows:

  1. Masters of Harmony 2893 – 96.4%
  2. Vocal Majority 2885 – 96.2%
  3. Central Standard 2828 – 94.3%
  4. Toronto Norhtern Lights 2820 – 94.0%
  5. Parkside Harmony 2761 – 92%
